Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Nikos Christodoulides: A united front on the Cyprus issue
In their recent meeting, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides discussed the latest developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region. The two leaders underscored the need for close cooperation, as the geopolitical situation remains particularly sensitive.
Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that Greece stands practically by Cyprus's side, noting that the "drums of war" are sounding loudly once again in various parts of the world. This statement highlights the concern for security and stability in the wider region, which directly affects both states.
For his part, President Christodoulides pointed out that it is now understood by all that the Cyprus issue is not just a local problem, but a significant European issue. The internationalization of the problem remains a key goal of Cypriot diplomacy, with the support of the Greek government.
The two leaders agreed that the resolution of the Cyprus issue must be based on United Nations resolutions and the principles of the European Union. Their joint stance sends a message of unity, seeking peace and stability through dialogue and respect for international law.
