New index for health insurance prices coming to Greece
The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) is preparing to publish the "Annual Change Index" for the first time. This new index will serve as an objective tool for calculating increases in health insurance premiums in Greece, offering a clearer picture of the market.
The main goal of this initiative is to enhance transparency. Until now, insurance companies decided on price increases for their policies based on their own criteria. With the creation of this index, there will now be a common reference point based on official statistical data.
The index will closely monitor changes in the cost of hospital services and medical expenses. This means that consumers will be able to better understand whether the increases they see in their bills are justified. It is an important step toward protecting citizens who have private health insurance.
The first implementation of the index is considered a significant test for the Greek insurance market. Experts estimate that the new system will help stabilize prices and limit excessive charges. Policyholders are now looking forward to the first official results from ELSTAT, which will determine the future of their contracts.
