Nikos Dendias: The need for a strong pan-European defense
The Minister of National Defense of Greece, Nikos Dendias, sent a resounding message during a recent event in Brussels. Mr. Dendias underscored the need to create a common European defense policy, emphasizing that the challenges Europe will face in the future are particularly complex and unpredictable.
In his speech, the Greek Minister referred extensively to relations with Turkey, characterizing it as a constant threat to Greece's national security. According to Mr. Dendias, the geopolitical situation in the region requires increased readiness and close cooperation between European Union member states.
Mr. Dendias stressed that Europe cannot rely solely on external allies for its protection. Instead, he argued that it is necessary to develop autonomous defense capabilities, which will allow the European Union to protect its borders and its interests against any kind of danger.
These statements come at a time when security in the wider Mediterranean region is at the center of international interest. The Greek government consistently seeks to strengthen European defense cooperation, viewing it as the key to maintaining peace and stability in our region.
