Low public spending on education in Greece
According to recently published data, Greece ranks among the lowest in the European Union regarding public spending on education. The data shows that the state invested only 3.3% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in education for the year 2023.
This percentage is concerning, as investment in education is considered a decisive factor for a country's development and the future of its youth. A comparison with the average of other European nations highlights a significant gap, as many EU countries allocate significantly larger funds to school and university infrastructure.
Experts point out that low funding directly affects the quality of services provided in public schools and universities. The lack of resources can lead to problems with classroom equipment, building maintenance, and opportunities for further research and innovation.
The discussion regarding increasing education spending remains open, as the Greek government is called upon to balance the country's fiscal needs with the necessity of upgrading the educational system. Society is waiting to see if there will be changes in the budget in the coming years to strengthen the sector.
