Revelations regarding the oversight of private clinics in Greece
The issue of the oversight of private clinics in our country is at the center of current events, following statements by the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis. The Minister publicly admitted that the Ministry of Health had no substantive authority to oversee private clinics since 2019.
This admission came to light on the occasion of the death of the well-known artist, Mazonakis, an event that sparked intense discussion in Greek society. The issue of patient safety and the quality of services provided in private institutions is now a central topic of political controversy.
According to Mr. Georgiadis' statements, the legal framework in force in recent years did not allow the Ministry to exercise the necessary control over compliance with operating rules. This gap in legislation has raised many questions regarding who is ultimately responsible for supervising private health structures.
The government is now called upon to provide answers on how this situation will change in the future. Citizens are demanding more transparency and stricter rules to ensure that all patients receive appropriate health services, regardless of whether the clinic is public or private.
In the coming period, new legislative initiatives are expected that will aim to strengthen the role of the Ministry of Health. The goal is to close the existing gaps and restore the citizens' sense of security regarding the country's health system.
