Greek aid to Spain for firefighting efforts
Greece has sent significant aid to Spain in order to assist in the efforts to extinguish the major wildfires that have struck the country over the past few days.
Specifically, two Canadair firefighting aircraft belonging to the Greek fleet actively participated in the firefighting operations. The aircraft and their crews operated in the affected areas for a period of four days.
This mission is part of the framework of European solidarity and cooperation between European Union member states for responding to natural disasters. Greece, having experience in managing forest fires, responded immediately to the request for assistance.
The contribution of the Greek aerial assets was deemed particularly useful for containing the fire fronts. Upon completion of the four-day operation, the aircraft returned to their base, strengthening the civil protection mechanism in the wider Mediterranean region.
