Gerapetritis provides clarifications on the electrical interconnection cable and Greek-Turkish relations
The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis, provided significant clarifications regarding the electrical interconnection project, responding to questions concerning the country's relations with Turkey. The Minister emphasized that the cable does not pass through areas that Ankara characterizes as "Turkish maritime parks," clarifying that there is no reason to redraw the project's route.
In his statements, Mr. Gerapetritis acknowledged that the Turkish side continues to uphold its established positions. According to the Minister, Ankara continues to refer to theories such as the "Blue Homeland" and the issue of "gray zones" in the Aegean, topics that have long been points of friction in diplomatic contacts between the two countries.
Despite the differing approaches, the Greek government seeks to maintain dialogue. The Foreign Minister underscored that Greece remains committed to the peaceful resolution of disputes, keeping communication channels open with the neighboring country, despite the difficulties arising from Turkish claims.
The electrical interconnection project remains of central importance for the energy security of Greece and the wider region. The government declares its determination to proceed with its planning, based on international law and the country's sovereign rights, while simultaneously ensuring stability in the region.
