Social media and teenagers: What is the truth about 'digital detox'?
The Greek government is considering the possibility of setting a 15-year age limit for the use of social media. The goal of this initiative is to protect minors from the dangers hidden in the digital world and to strengthen their mental health.
However, the topic of "digital detox" remains controversial within the scientific community. A recent review of 45 different studies showed that there is not enough scientific evidence to prove with certainty that complete abstinence from social media offers significant benefits to users.
Researchers point out that there are significant gaps in the data, as most studies have not reached clear conclusions. Although many parents and experts are concerned about the time teenagers spend in front of a screen, science needs more time and better methods to understand the long-term effects.
The issue of internet use by young people remains at the top of the news agenda in Greece. While discussions about legislative regulations continue, experts emphasize that awareness and responsible use are just as important as restrictions.
