Eight people arrested for migrant smuggling in Northern Greece
A significant police operation took place yesterday in Northern Greece, aimed at combating illegal human trafficking. Authorities proceeded with the arrest of eight individuals involved in cases of transporting illegal migrants.
The incidents occurred in different areas, specifically in Evros, Rhodope, and Kavala. In total, six separate incidents were recorded within the same day, a fact that highlights the intense activity of smuggling rings in the region.
According to initial information from the police, the arrested individuals attempted to transport a total of 32 people who did not possess the necessary legal documents. The migrants were located during checks conducted by police forces on the road network.
The detainees were taken to the competent prosecutorial authorities, where they face charges for facilitating the transport of illegal migrants. Investigations by the authorities are ongoing to determine whether the arrested individuals are linked to larger organized networks.
The Hellenic Police remain on alert in border areas, strengthening surveillance measures. The goal is to limit illegal flows and protect the borders, while simultaneously adhering to the prescribed legal procedures.
