Greece leads European tourism with an impressive increase in 2026
Greece holds the top position in European tourism for the first months of 2026. According to the latest data, the country showed the largest increase in tourist arrivals compared to all other European countries. This development confirms that Greece remains one of the most popular and attractive destinations worldwide.
Specifically, arrivals in Greece increased by 38.3% at the start of the year. The most impressive element, however, concerns the financial data, as tourism receipts recorded an increase of 64%. This means that visitors are not only arriving in larger numbers but are also spending more money during their stay.
Greece's success is even more significant when compared to other major Mediterranean tourist destinations. Italy ranked second with an increase of 21.1%, while Malta followed in third place with 16%. The large difference in percentages demonstrates the momentum that the Greek tourism sector has developed in recent years.
These positive results are particularly important for the Greek economy, as tourism is one of its key pillars. Industry experts estimate that if this trend continues, 2026 will be a record-breaking year that will provide new jobs and economic support to many regions of the country.
