Greece invests in green energy for a cleaner future
Protecting the environment and tackling climate change are now a priority for Greece. Our country is taking significant steps to reduce carbon use and turn to cleaner energy sources. In this effort, the Public Power Corporation (PPC) plays a leading role, radically changing the way electricity is produced.
One of the most important measures is the gradual closure of old lignite-fired power plants. For decades, lignite was the main source of energy in Greece, but its use causes significant pollution. By phasing it out, the country aims for a drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, thereby contributing to the protection of the atmosphere and public health.
In place of the old production units, large parks with photovoltaic systems and wind turbines are now being created. Regions such as Western Macedonia and Megalopolis are being transformed into modern green technology hubs. These investments not only help the environment but also boost the local economy, creating new jobs for the residents of these areas.
The transition to green energy is a major challenge, but also a significant opportunity for Greece. Although the road to full energy independence is long, harnessing the sun and wind ensures a more sustainable life for future generations. The country aspires to become a role model for the rest of Europe in the field of ecological innovation.
