Changes to license plates: Digital system and number selection are coming
Significant changes are expected in the license plate issuance system in Greece, with the aim of modernizing the process. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is proceeding with the creation of a new digital system, which will simplify bureaucracy for vehicle owners.
One of the key innovations is the creation of an open Registry of license plate manufacturers. In this way, the state will have better control over their production and distribution, while ensuring transparency throughout the supply chain.
Furthermore, drivers will now have the ability to choose their vehicle's license plate number. This service will be provided through the payment of a special fee, giving citizens the opportunity to personalize their car or motorcycle plates.
This new framework is expected to reduce waiting times at public services and offer greater flexibility to citizens. Details regarding the implementation of the measure and the cost of the fee are expected to be officially announced in the coming period.
