Risk to personal data for drivers of modern cars
Modern "smart" cars, which are constantly connected to the internet, offer many conveniences to drivers but also hide significant risks to their privacy. According to a recent study, most of these vehicles collect and send personal data to large technology companies without the full knowledge of their owners.
Research revealed that seven popular applications related to vehicle use showed serious leaks of sensitive information. Among the data exposed is the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which is the car's unique identifier and can be directly linked to its owner.
Experts warn that technology companies use this data to track drivers' habits, the routes they take, and other personal preferences. This practice raises serious questions regarding the security of personal data in the European Union and Greece, where rules for user protection are particularly strict.
Drivers are now urged to be more careful with the privacy settings in their vehicles. It is important for consumers to check what permissions they grant to the applications they install and to stay informed about how the information they share with their car manufacturers is used.
