Tragedy in Venezuela: Hundreds Dead and Thousands Missing Following Twin Earthquakes
Venezuela is experiencing one of the most difficult moments in its history after two extremely powerful earthquakes struck the country. The tremors, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, occurred within less than a minute of each other, causing massive destruction in many areas.
The official death toll is already heavy, with at least 188 confirmed dead. However, authorities fear that this number will rise dramatically, as tens of thousands of people remain missing. The city of La Guaira appears to have been hit the hardest, with entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble.
At this moment, rescuers are engaged in a race against time among the building debris. Efforts are focused on locating survivors, but their task is extremely difficult. Continuous aftershocks and severe damage to the road network are hindering rescue teams' access to isolated areas.
The humanitarian situation in the affected zones is critical. Thousands of citizens have been left homeless and are seeking shelter in safe locations. There is a great need for essential supplies, such as clean water, food, and medicine, as local hospitals struggle to cope with the large number of injured.
The international community is monitoring the developments in Venezuela with concern. The coming hours and days are considered crucial for rescuing those who are still trapped. The country is in a state of emergency, while the government is calling for the cooperation of all forces to deal with this unprecedented disaster.
