Historic return of 48 sacred relics from Bulgaria to Greece
An important day for Greek culture dawned today in Thessaloniki. At the Museum of Byzantine Culture, a signing ceremony was held for a historic agreement between Greece and Bulgaria, concerning the return of 48 sacred relics to our country.
These specific items had been removed from Greece more than a century ago, during turbulent historical periods. Their return is the result of long-term negotiations and close cooperation between the two neighboring states, with the aim of restoring cultural heritage.
The official signing ceremony was attended by the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev. The presence of the two leaders underscores the importance of the agreement, not only for culture but also for maintaining good diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The relics being returned are of great religious and historical value to the Greek people. This process is considered a positive step for the protection of monuments and the promotion of historical memory, allowing citizens to once again come into contact with important pieces of their tradition.
The return of these items closes a matter that had been pending for many decades. The Greek government expressed its satisfaction with the development, emphasizing that cooperation in the field of culture serves as a bridge of friendship between the peoples of Greece and Bulgaria.
