Significant Increase in Medical Air Evacuations from the Greek Islands

Significant improvement is being shown in the provision of health services on the Greek islands, according to recent data presented by the Ministry of Health. The Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Themistocleous, announced that medical air evacuations have increased impressively in recent years, offering greater safety to residents.

Specifically, the number of air evacuations has more than doubled from 2021 to the present. This means that more people living in remote areas now have rapid access to major hospitals in Athens and other cities when there is an urgent need for specialized care.

This increase is due to better organization of the health system and the strengthening of available means of transport. Mr. Themistocleous emphasized that the government prioritizes the protection of island residents, ensuring that no citizen is left without medical assistance due to their geographical location.

Island residents now feel more secure, as the National Emergency Care Center (EKAB) and the Air Force work closely together for the immediate transport of patients. The speed of transport is often critical for people's lives, especially in cases of serious accidents or sudden health problems that cannot be treated locally.

Despite existing challenges, the strengthening of air evacuations represents a very positive step for public health in Greece. The Ministry of Health committed to continuing efforts to further upgrade health services throughout the country, with a particular emphasis on the needs of island regions.
