Significant decrease in migration flows to Greece in 2026
There is a significant drop in migrant arrivals at Greece's maritime borders during 2026. According to official data presented by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, the total number of people who arrived in our country from Turkey and Libya has decreased by 34% compared to the previous period.
This reduction represents a significant development for the management of the migration issue, which is a priority for the Greek government. The authorities attribute this improvement to enhanced border surveillance measures and the efforts being made to control maritime passages.
Despite the reduction in flows, Greek authorities remain on alert. Surveillance at the maritime borders continues with undiminished intensity in order to ensure the country's security and prevent illegal activities that endanger human lives in the Aegean and the Libyan Sea.
The government emphasizes that it will continue to cooperate with international partners to address the root causes of migration. The stabilization of flows is considered a positive step; however, border management remains a complex issue that requires constant attention and strategic planning.
