Warning about software errors: Incorrect medication dosages possible
The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) has issued an important warning for medical practices in Germany. There are technical problems with the software that many doctors use for their daily work. In some cases, the program displays incorrect information regarding medication dosages.
The problem occurs when the so-called nationwide medication plan is imported into a practice's computer system. This plan is intended to ensure that doctors can see all of a patient's medications at a glance. However, errors are currently occurring during the transfer of data into the software. This results in the quantity of a medication being stored incorrectly in the system.
Such errors can be dangerous for patient health. If a doctor creates a prescription based on this incorrect data, the patient may take the wrong dose. This can have serious consequences, especially with potent medications. The KBV is therefore asking doctors to carefully check all information in the computer and compare it with the paper plan.
The software manufacturers have already been informed of the technical difficulties. They are now working intensively on updates to fix the errors as quickly as possible. Until these solutions are installed, medical professionals and their teams must be particularly vigilant. Patient safety is the highest priority in this situation.
