Employees steal 220,000 euros from the refugee support agency
Employees at the Nidos agency, which is used by the Dutch government to support unaccompanied minor refugees, managed to defraud the agency of 220,000 euros, as revealed by Housing Minister Mona Keijzer in parliament.
According to the message sent by Kaiser to the deputies, the employees seized the amount through two cash withdrawals using bank cards belonging to Nidos accounts. Those involved in the case have been dismissed from their jobs.
In one case, the stolen money was returned, while the second case is still under ongoing criminal investigation. Kaiser confirmed that the Nidos agency has taken "sufficient measures" to prevent such incidents from recurring and has formed a special task force to find permanent solutions, including reducing cash transactions within the agency.
The minister, who took over the refugee affairs portfolio after the far-right PVV party withdrew from the government, indicated that the law requires her to inform Parliament of the incident since the embezzled amount exceeds 100,000 euros.
