Hong Kong Holds Territory-wide Flag Day to Raise Funds for Lutheran Social Service
A spokesperson for the Social Welfare Department (SWD) stated that today (June 20) is a territory-wide Flag Day. This event is organized by Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service and has been granted a Public Subscription Permit by the government to conduct fundraising activities across all districts in Hong Kong.
During today's event, many volunteers will be seen throughout the streets and alleys of Hong Kong. Carrying donation boxes, they invite members of the public to donate and show their support. Once a donation is made, volunteers place a small, beautifully designed sticker (commonly known as a "flag") on the donor's clothing. This serves not only as a token of gratitude but also symbolizes the public's care for society.
The funds raised this time will primarily be used to support various social welfare services provided by the Lutheran Social Service. These services cover a wide range, including elderly care, youth counseling, and support for vulnerable families. The organization stated that these donations are vital for maintaining daily operations and ensuring that more people in need can receive assistance.
To protect the interests of the public, the Social Welfare Department reminds everyone that all legitimate flag-selling activities must hold a permit. Before donating, citizens can check if volunteers are wearing official identification cards and confirm that the organization's name and logo are printed on the donation boxes. If members of the public have any questions regarding the activity, they can also consult the government's official website.
Flag Day is a long-standing charitable tradition in Hong Kong, combining community participation with a spirit of public welfare. Through such activities, citizens can not only perform acts of kindness in a simple way but also increase their awareness of social welfare organizations. Both the government and the organizing body call on the public to provide their enthusiastic support and contribute to the building of society.
