Global Markets Weaken: HK Stocks Face Challenges, IPOs and Semiconductor Sectors Shine
Impacted by a rebound in U.S. inflation data and rising long-term bond yields, the three major U.S. stock indices recently faced a sell-off, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing down more than 500 points. This pressure has also spread to the Hong Kong stock market, where the Hang Seng Index opened 123 points lower today at 25,838. Currently, global stock market performance has weakened, and Hong Kong stocks are in a critical tug-of-war at the "bull-bear line" as the market remains concerned about the Federal Reserve's interest rate policy.
In the IPO market, a new "oversubscription king" emerged today. Efrobot (06871) delivered a stunning performance on its first day of listing, with its opening price nearly 80% higher than its offer price, yielding a profit of HK$2,415 per lot. The stock was oversubscribed by more than 11,000 times, receiving an extremely enthusiastic market response. Meanwhile, the pharmacy retail chain Lung Fung Group has passed its listing hearing and is expected to raise approximately HK$780 million.
The semiconductor sector performed relatively strongly. Following the announcement of its financial results, SMIC has received positive outlooks from several investment institutions, and Citibank has raised its target price for Hua Hong Semiconductor by nearly 40%. Furthermore, benefiting from the release of an A-share prospectus by domestic memory chip leader CXMT, GigaDevice (03986) opened 11% higher today, indicating that investors still have confidence in the chip industry.
In contrast, auto stocks performed poorly. Leapmotor (09863) announced that its first-quarter loss expanded threefold year-on-year, and its gross margin fell significantly, causing its stock price to open more than 3% lower. Affected by this, the "new forces" of auto brands in the market collectively trended downward, though oil stocks (the "two barrels of oil") rose against the market trend due to risk-aversion sentiment.
Regarding individual movers, Marketingforce (02556) saw its stock price rise by nearly 5% today to HK$42.52. The group recently introduced capital through a share placement involving approximately HK$500 million. This financing plan has provided support for the stock price, which has now risen for two consecutive days.
Despite market volatility, China and the U.S. reached a certain level of consensus on economic and trade cooperation following recent meetings, bringing some positive news to the future market environment. However, investors still need to closely monitor global economic data, particularly changes in inflation and interest rates, to navigate the current turbulent investment environment.
