Hong Kong Delegation Visits Germany to Study University Town Development Experience
Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan recently led a delegation to Germany. The primary purpose of this trip was to study local "University Town" development to seek inspiration and experience for the development of Hong Kong's "Northern Metropolis." The delegation, comprising government officials and relevant experts, focused on the integration of education and industry.
During the visit, the delegation toured education and research facilities in cities such as Heilbronn. They visited local campuses to understand how Germany integrates universities with urban communities through comprehensive planning. This model not only provides an excellent learning environment but also promotes the vitality of the local community.
The delegation paid particular attention to Germany's success in "industry-academic-research" cooperation. There are close ties between German universities and enterprises, allowing students to participate in actual scientific research projects during their studies. Eric Chan stated that this cooperation model serves as an important reference for Hong Kong's future establishment of a university town in the Northern Metropolis, helping to cultivate more technology and innovation talent.
Additionally, the delegation held in-depth exchanges with local education leaders and business representatives. Both sides discussed how to encourage universities to conduct technology transfer and transform research results into practical commercial products through policy support. These experiences will help the Hong Kong government allocate resources more effectively when planning the university town.
The trip to Germany has concluded successfully, and the delegation has collected a wealth of valuable information. The government stated that it will refer to Germany's successful cases to further optimize the planning of the university town in the Northern Metropolis. This project is expected to enhance Hong Kong's status in international education and create more diverse development opportunities for the younger generation.
