Hong Kong Financial Delegation Visits Mainland; Overview of Social Order and Beach Safety Updates
The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Christopher Hui, will lead a financial delegation of over 30 members to visit Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Suzhou tomorrow (June 14). Speaking after a radio program today, Hui stated that the trip aims to strengthen financial cooperation with Mainland cities and explore development opportunities for corporate treasury centers. He emphasized that such centers help enterprises manage funds more effectively and are crucial to Hong Kong's status as an international financial center.
Regarding social order and disciplined services, the Commissioner of Police, Joe Chow, attended the passing-out parade for the second Hong Kong Police College Foundation Training today. He reviewed 159 trainees who completed their training and witnessed their official entry into service. The training aims to enhance the professional capabilities and emergency response skills of the trainees, injecting new blood into the maintenance of the rule of law in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Customs has also made progress in combating smuggling. Yesterday (June 12), customs officers seized eight suspected controlled endangered live turtles at Hong Kong International Airport, with an estimated market value of about $16,000. Customs reminds the public that the import and export of endangered species are subject to strict legal controls and warns against breaking the law.
In terms of livelihood and public health, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) announced today the cancellation of the license of a restaurant in Fanling. The licensee had repeatedly violated the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the business area, leading to the department's decisive action to cancel the license. The FEHD urges all restaurant operators to comply with relevant regulations to ensure environmental hygiene and public safety.
Today's weather conditions also affected several outdoor activities. Due to the thunderstorm warning being in effect, the flag-raising ceremony originally scheduled for 8:00 AM today at the Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai was forced to be cancelled. Authorities remind the public to stay in safe places during severe weather and keep an eye on the latest meteorological information for safety.
Additionally, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) issued special warnings for several beaches today. Due to big waves or water quality issues, red flags have been hoisted at Shek O Beach and several other beaches, indicating that swimming there is dangerous. The public is reminded not to enter the water.
However, wave conditions in some areas have improved. The LCSD announced that the red flags previously hoisted at Hap Mun Bay Beach and Clear Water Bay Second Beach due to big waves have now been lowered, and the public can resume water activities. The department suggests that swimmers check the latest opening status of each beach before heading out.
