Hong Kong Delegation Departs for Jiuquan to Attend Shenzhou-23 Launch Ceremony
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government delegation officially departed on May 23 for the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu Province. The core purpose of this trip is to attend the send-off ceremony for the Shenzhou-23 manned space mission and to cheer on the astronauts who are about to enter space.
The delegation is led by Professor Sun Dong, the Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry. Members include several government officials as well as representatives from Hong Kong's scientific, technological, and academic sectors. They will witness the latest progress of China's aerospace industry firsthand at the launch site, reflecting the close ties between Hong Kong and the nation's aerospace development.
Shenzhou-23 is a vital component of China's manned space program. The primary goal of this mission is to transport astronauts to the Chinese Space Station to conduct a series of scientific experiments and technical tests. Such missions not only demonstrate the nation's technological prowess but also provide valuable data for human space exploration.
In recent years, Hong Kong's participation in the national aerospace industry has grown increasingly significant. In addition to sending delegations to observe launch activities, Hong Kong's higher education institutions and research organizations have participated in the research and development of aerospace equipment on multiple occasions. This deep cooperation has brought more opportunities for Hong Kong's innovation and technology development.
Secretary Sun Dong stated that he felt deeply honored to represent Hong Kong at this grand send-off ceremony. He believes that this visit will not only promote exchanges between the two regions in the field of technology but also inspire passion for scientific exploration among Hong Kong's youth, encouraging more young people to pursue careers in scientific research.
