Huge sums flowed into state capital funds
According to the latest report by Transparency International Hungary, a significant amount of public money has been channeled into state-owned capital funds. Based on the organization's data, four state-owned companies have undertaken investments totaling more than 2,645 billion forints in various private equity funds registered both domestically and abroad.
Private equity funds are a form of investment where investors' money is pooled into a common fund to be invested in various businesses. State involvement in these funds has become a central issue because the transparency of the use of public funds and the precise purpose of the investments are often difficult for the public to track.
The report highlights that the sum of several thousand billion forints is considered extremely high and raises serious questions regarding the management of state assets. According to experts, due to the lack of transparency, it is difficult to accurately assess what economic benefits these investments bring to the country or what risks they pose to public funds.
Regarding the matter, Transparency International emphasizes that public access and accountability are essential when spending state resources. According to the organization, it would be important in the future to provide more precise information about exactly which projects this huge sum was invested in and under what conditions.
Overall, the case draws attention to the importance of transparency in state investment practices. For the Hungarian public, it remains a question as to what steps will be taken in the future to ensure stricter oversight of the use of public funds.
