The European Commission urges anti-corruption reforms in Hungary

The European Commission recently published its latest recommendations, in which it encourages several member states, including Hungary, to take more decisive steps to curb corruption. According to the Brussels-based body, strengthening the rule of law and increasing transparency are key tasks for the coming period.

The report specifically calls for further strengthening the independence of the Hungarian judicial system. According to European Commission experts, the introduction of more effective control mechanisms is essential to make the use of public funds more transparent and to reduce the risk of abuse.

The recommendations also include tightening public procurement procedures and more strictly enforcing conflict-of-interest rules. The Commission emphasized that the implementation of these reforms is important not only for the use of EU funds but also to increase trust in democratic institutions.

In addition to Hungary, Spain has also received a similar call from European institutions. In the case of both countries, the Commission identified similar problems, particularly regarding the functioning of the judiciary and institutional transparency.

The Hungarian government is currently reviewing the European Commission's proposals. Further consultations are expected to take place between Brussels and the member states in the coming months regarding how these necessary reforms can be implemented in practice.
