Huge sums of state investment in private equity funds
According to the latest report by Transparency International Hungary, a significant amount of public money has been channeled into private equity funds through state-owned companies. Based on the research data, four major state-owned enterprises have committed a total of more than 2,645 billion forints in investments in various funds registered in Hungary and abroad.
The operation of private equity funds is often opaque, as these organizations are not required to disclose the precise purpose of their investments or their ownership background in detail. The report highlights that with these types of financial solutions, it is difficult to track how taxpayers' money is being used.
The massive amount of money managed by state-owned companies has sparked serious professional debate. According to economic experts, moving public funds through such uncontrollable channels carries risks, particularly in terms of financial transparency and accountability.
Transparency International Hungary emphasizes that transparency and accountability should be of fundamental importance in the use of public funds. According to the organization, stricter regulations will be needed in the future so that citizens can see exactly what projects and what purposes state resources are being spent on.
