Huge amount of state investment in private equity funds
According to the latest report by Transparency International Hungary, a significant amount of public money has been channeled into private equity funds through state-owned companies. Four large state-owned enterprises have committed a total of more than 2,645 billion forints in investments in various funds registered both domestically and abroad.
The operation of private equity funds is often opaque, as these organizations are not required to disclose the names of their actual beneficial owners. The report highlights that investing such a massive amount of public funds in this manner raises serious questions regarding transparency and accountability.
According to experts, the use of public funds in this way makes it difficult for the public to monitor for what purposes and with what efficiency taxpayers' money is being spent. Transparency International therefore urges stricter regulation and greater transparency in the field of state investments.
The state-owned companies involved in the matter have not yet provided detailed information on the exact purpose and return on these investments. The topic is expected to remain at the center of economic and political discourse in the coming period, as the magnitude of the amount involved could have a significant impact on the country's budget.
