More than 2,600 billion forints of public money moved into private equity funds
According to the latest report by Transparency International Hungary, a significant amount of public funds has flowed into private equity funds in the recent period. Four state-owned companies have committed a total of more than 2,645 billion forints in investments across various funds registered in Hungary and abroad.
Private equity funds are a form of investment where the identity of the investors is often not public. The report highlights that the fate of the vast sums managed by state-owned companies and the precise purpose of the investments are in many cases difficult for the public to track.
According to experts, the transparency of such investments is crucial for the efficient use of public funds. Transparency International Hungary draws attention to the fact that accountability is essential when managing public money, especially when the funds are transferred to privately managed funds.
Since the publication of the report, several professional organizations have raised questions regarding the investments. Public opinion and economic analysts are now waiting for the involved state-owned companies to provide more detailed information on the background of the financial decisions and the expected results of the investments.
The matter is expected to remain at the center of economic news in the coming weeks. Responses from authorities and decision-makers may help clarify what rules will apply to the use of public funds in this manner in the future.
