Important report on food safety: thousands of alerts issued in the EU

The European Union has published the 2025 annual summary of the Alert and Cooperation Network (RASFF). This system plays a key role in ensuring that European countries quickly share information with each other if dangerous food or feed is found on the market. The report aims to provide a transparent picture of the safety of the European food chain and consumer protection.

According to recent statistics, a total of 5,344 cases were reported in the network in 2025. Interestingly, the vast majority of notifications, approximately 92 percent, were directly related to food. This data shows that European authorities pay special attention to what people put on their tables every day and strictly monitor product quality.

This cooperation is also of paramount importance for Hungary. Hungarian authorities, such as Nébih, continuously monitor these international signals. If a problem is found in another EU country with a product that is also available in Hungary, domestic experts can take immediate action. Thus, if necessary, they can quickly remove dangerous goods from store shelves, thereby protecting Hungarian consumers.

Cases mentioned in the report often include pesticide residues, various infections, or undeclared allergens. The network's effectiveness is indicated by the fact that in the majority of the 249 high-priority cases, serious health problems were successfully prevented. Thanks to the system, shoppers can feel safer in stores, as faulty products are identified sooner.

Overall, the 2025 data confirms that close cooperation between EU member states is essential in modern trade. Although the number of alerts may seem high, it is actually the result of strict and thorough inspections. Experts recommend that consumers continue to monitor official product recalls on the authorities' websites.
