A fund linked to Lőrinc Mészáros has repaid a significant sum to the state
A total of 2.27 billion forints has been returned to the Hungarian state treasury by the Prime Tech Private Equity Fund. This investment fund is closely linked to businessman Lőrinc Mészáros, whose enterprises are present in numerous sectors of the Hungarian economy.
The background to this financial transaction is a previous road network agreement. The government reviewed contracts related to the development and operation of highways and public roads. As a result of the investigation, it was decided that the fund must repay this significant amount.
The case is also noteworthy because the operation of private equity funds is frequently a subject of public discourse in Hungary. In the case of such funds, the ownership structure is often not entirely transparent, which is why both authorities and economic analysts monitor state payments related to them with increased attention.
The repaid 2.27 billion forints represents important revenue for the state budget. Government agencies have not yet released further details on whether similar reviews are to be expected for other projects in the future, or if this case was an isolated decision.
