Huge sums migrated into state-owned private equity funds
According to the latest data from Transparency International Hungary, a significant amount of public money has been funneled into state-owned private equity funds. Based on the organization's report, four state-owned companies have committed a total of more than 2,645 billion forints in investments across various domestic and foreign funds.
The operation of private equity funds is often less transparent than that of traditional state investments. According to experts, it is more difficult to track exactly for what purposes and under what conditions taxpayers' money is being used in the case of these types of investments.
The state-owned companies involved justified the investments by citing support for various economic projects. At the same time, Transparency International points out that managing public funds to this extent would require increased oversight and greater publicity within the Hungarian economy.
The report has sparked a serious debate among economic experts regarding the transparency of the use of public funds. In the coming period, further investigations are expected to shed light on how these vast sums contribute to the country's economic development.
