European Commission urges anti-corruption reforms in Hungary
In a recently published report, the European Commission has issued a new call to Hungary and Spain. According to the Brussels-based body, both countries must make increased efforts to strengthen the rule of law and combat corruption.
The report primarily emphasizes the importance of the independence of the judiciary. According to European Commission experts, Hungary must take concrete steps to ensure transparency in the use of public funds and make the investigation of corruption cases more effective.
The document also notes that authorities must introduce stricter oversight mechanisms. The goal is to make the operation of public institutions traceable and verifiable for everyone, thereby increasing public trust in state agencies.
Negotiations between the Hungarian government and European Union institutions regarding these issues have been ongoing for some time. The current call is part of a broader process aimed at meeting the conditions for access to EU funds.
The European Commission expects that the implementation of the proposed reforms could improve the country's economic and legal environment in the long term. Further consultations between the Hungarian government and EU officials regarding the details of the necessary measures are expected to take place in the coming months.
