Debate over the European Union's migration pact in Hungary
Fidesz has firmly called on the Hungarian government to make an official statement regarding the European Union's new migration pact. The governing party expects the cabinet to announce today that Hungary will not implement the provisions of the EU agreement.
The European Union's migration pact is scheduled to enter into force this Friday. The regulation aims to protect the union's external borders and manage migration processes collectively; however, the position of the Hungarian government and Fidesz is that the pact does not serve the country's interests.
According to Fidesz representatives, the new rules could jeopardize Hungary's sovereignty and border protection measures. The political organization is therefore urging the government to reject the application of the pact and to seek other solutions for addressing migration challenges.
The government has not yet issued an official statement on what specific steps it will take by the Friday deadline. The issue is expected to be one of the most important domestic political topics in the coming days, as the introduction of the pact could bring significant changes to the migration policies of the union's member states.
