More than 2.6 trillion forints of public money moved into private equity funds
According to the latest report by Transparency International Hungary, a significant amount of public funding has flowed into private equity funds. Four state-owned companies have committed a total of more than 2,645 billion forints in investments across various funds registered in Hungary and abroad.
The operation of private equity funds is often opaque to the public, as it is not always possible to know exactly who the ultimate owners or beneficiaries of these funds are. Experts suggest that with this type of investment, it is more difficult to monitor how public money is being used.
The report highlights that the vast sum managed by state-owned companies raises serious questions regarding transparency. According to the organization, it is important for taxpayers to see exactly for what purposes and under what conditions public assets are being invested.
Regarding the matter, no detailed government explanation has been provided yet concerning the precise purpose of the investments. Transparency International Hungary continues to advocate for stricter oversight and greater transparency in the management of public funds.
Overall, the case highlights that the use of public funds through private equity funds remains one of the most controversial topics in Hungarian economic life. In the coming period, further professional and political debates are expected to follow the data presented in the report.
