Hungary has requested Slovakia's assistance to ensure water supply
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó held official talks with members of the Slovak government. The central topic of the discussions was the security of Hungary's long-term water supply, which is one of the most important environmental and economic issues in the region.
The foundation of the cooperation between the two countries is the shared section of the Danube, which plays a key role in managing the water resources of both nations. The Hungarian side's goal is to be able to guarantee the amount of water necessary for the population and industry, despite the challenges posed by climate change.
During the negotiations, the parties agreed to continue the professional dialogue. Experts from the two countries will cooperate more closely on water management projects in the future to find joint solutions for managing water level fluctuations and potential droughts.
This diplomatic step also shows that water-related consultations between neighboring countries are essential for sustainable development. The Hungarian government will continue to pay special attention to international water management agreements in the future to protect Hungary's natural resources.
