Emerald ash borer has appeared in Hungary
Experts have reported worrying news: the emerald ash borer has appeared in Hungary. This invasive insect species, native to Asia, is one of the most dangerous pests that specifically attacks ash trees.
The beetle's larvae live under the bark of trees, where they feed on the vascular tissues. By doing so, they cut off the tree's nutrient supply, which leads to the death of the plant in a short period of time. Since the pest has no natural enemies in Europe, it can spread quickly and effectively through forests.
According to experts, the appearance of the emerald ash borer poses a serious environmental risk. Infected trees are often only noticed when it is already too late and the condition of the tree has irreversibly deteriorated. Therefore, the authorities are closely monitoring the affected areas.
Controlling the pest is an extremely difficult task. Currently, the most important step is to identify and cut down infected trees as soon as possible to prevent the further spread of the beetles. Experts are asking forest owners and the public to be vigilant and to notify the relevant authorities in case of suspicious symptoms.
