Significant growth in Hungarian live pig exports in the first half of the year
According to the latest trade data, Hungary's livestock trade underwent significant changes in the first five months of 2026. Based on the statistics, Hungary's pig exports showed spectacular growth compared to the same period last year.
In the first five months of the year, Hungarian live pig exports rose by 40.8 percent, with the total export volume reaching 14,100 tons. This figure indicates that there is still high demand for the products of Hungarian pig farmers in international markets.
At the same time, the volume of live pig imports decreased slightly. The quantity of imported animals fell by 1.9 percent, meaning a total of 16,400 tons of pigs arrived in the country during the period under review.
Although the exported quantity increased significantly, experts point out that the total revenue derived from exports has decreased. This duality shows that changes in market prices have a serious impact on the results of the Hungarian agricultural economy.
Overall, the trade balance of the pig sector is showing an improving trend due to the growth in exports. In the future, the development of market prices will be the deciding factor in when this quantitative growth will also be reflected in economic revenues.
