The emerald ash borer has appeared in Hungary
Worrying news has been reported by experts: the emerald ash borer has appeared in Hungary. This invasive insect species, native to Asia, poses a serious threat to domestic forests, as it is one of the most destructive pests of ash trees.
According to experts, the beetle's larvae develop under the tree's bark, where they obstruct the tree's nutrient supply by gnawing through the vascular tissues. This process can lead to the death of infected trees in a short period, which may cause significant ecological and economic damage to forestry.
The spread of this invasive species is particularly dangerous because the emerald ash borer has no natural predators in Europe to curb its reproduction. The insect spreads easily and is capable of colonizing large areas in a short time, which is why authorities are monitoring the situation with increased attention.
Specialists are asking forest owners and the public to monitor the condition of ash trees. If unusual wilting or irregular tunnels under the bark are observed, it is advisable to notify the territorially competent forestry authority to prevent further damage.
