More than 2.6 trillion forints of state money moved into private equity funds
According to the latest report by Transparency International Hungary, a significant amount of state funds has flowed into private equity funds. Four state-owned companies have committed a total of more than 2,645 billion forints in investments in various funds registered in Hungary and abroad.
The operation of private equity funds is often opaque, as these organizations are not required to disclose the list of their investors. Because of this, it is difficult for the public to track exactly who benefits from state subsidies and for what purposes these vast sums are being used.
The report highlights that the management of state assets in this manner raises serious questions regarding transparency. Experts argue that greater oversight and public disclosure are essential when using public funds to prevent potential abuses.
So far, there has been no detailed government explanation regarding why these channels were used for the investments. Transparency International continues to push for stricter regulations so that the path of state funds can be more accurately traced in the future.
