European Commission urges anti-corruption reforms in Hungary

The European Commission has recently issued new recommendations for several member states, including Hungary and Spain. The Brussels-based body aims to ensure that member countries take more effective action against corruption and strengthen the independence of the judiciary.

According to the report, Hungary must take further steps to increase transparency. Commission experts argue that it is important for state decision-making processes to be more traceable and for stricter oversight mechanisms to be in place during the use of public funds.

The European Commission emphasized that ensuring the independence of the judiciary is of fundamental importance for the rule of law. The proposals aim to ensure that judicial systems in all member states are free from political influence, thereby increasing citizens' trust in institutions.

Alongside Hungary, Spain also received a similar call from the Commission. The EU institution continuously monitors the reform processes of member states and regularly evaluates the progress each country has made in the fight against corruption.

In the coming months, consultations between the European Commission and the Hungarian government regarding the necessary measures are expected to continue. The goal is for every member state to ensure the proper functioning of democratic institutions in accordance with common EU rules.
