Important changes are expected in forest management in Hungary. László Gajdos, head of NYÍRERDŐ Zrt., recently announced that stricter rules will be introduced in the future to protect the most valuable, so-called old-growth forests.
According to the plans, logging will be completely halted in these special natural areas. The goal is to preserve the biological diversity of the forests and ensure the long-term survival of natural habitats.
Another important element of the announcement is the abolition of clear-cutting in protected forests. During clear-cutting, all trees in a given area are felled, which severely damages the soil and local wildlife. In the future, forest managers will use more gentle methods when harvesting trees.
According to environmental experts, these measures represent a significant step toward the preservation of Hungarian forests. Professionals are confident that the undisturbed nature of natural processes will help increase the resilience of forests against climate change.
NYÍRERDŐ Zrt. promises that the process has already begun, and the new regulations will be introduced gradually over the coming years. The goal of this move is to ensure that a healthy and rich forest stock remains in Hungary for future generations.
