A crow ringed in Nógrád County flew more than a thousand kilometers
The Nógrád County group of the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Society (MME) has reported surprising news. Experts tracked the journey of a crow that had previously been marked with a ring in Nógrád, but the bird did not remain in the area.
After a long migration, the bird was discovered in Belarus. The distance the crow traveled is more than a thousand kilometers. This discovery is particularly special because it provides experts with important information about the migration habits of birds and how far specimens from Hungary can travel.
Bird ringing is a method used worldwide, allowing researchers to observe the movement, age, and migration routes of birds. When such a bird is found abroad, the data is entered into a shared database, allowing experts to gain a more accurate picture of population behavior.
MME staff ask the public that if anyone finds a ringed bird, they should definitely report it to the organization. Similar cases help us better understand natural processes and also contribute to bird conservation.
