Long weekend in Hungary: here is how stores will be open
The festive long weekend is approaching, which for many Hungarian families is a time for relaxation and shared activities. However, shoppers should plan ahead, as store opening hours will differ significantly from the usual schedule on public holidays.
On Thursday, the day of the holiday, most major grocery chains and stores will be closed nationwide. In accordance with legal regulations, only smaller shops located at gas stations, on-duty pharmacies, and non-stop convenience stores may welcome customers during this time.
On Friday and throughout the weekend, however, most stores will welcome customers according to their usual schedule. The outlets of larger retail chains will reopen, so there will be no disruptions in grocery shopping for the remainder of the week.
Experts advise the public to take care of larger shopping trips on Wednesday. This will help avoid the last-minute rush before Thursday and the crowding at the checkout counters.
Overall, we will only have to do without our usual stores for a single day during the long weekend. In addition to resting, it is also worth paying attention to changes in transportation, as the schedules for public transport will also be adjusted to the holiday timetable.
