Serious fire devastated Hungary on Sunday
On Sunday, a massive fire broke out, spreading across several tens of hectares. The flames spread quickly, putting nearby buildings and the environment in serious danger.
Firefighters were deployed in large numbers to contain the flames. During the firefighting efforts, it became clear that the situation was much more complex than it first appeared: although the surface fire was extinguished, the burning continued underground.
The flames also reached residential areas. In the immediate vicinity of the fire, a kindergarten, several houses, and agricultural lands were put at risk. Additionally, a solar park was threatened by the fire, which made defense efforts particularly difficult.
According to experts, the underground smoldering poses a serious challenge, as the fire can continue to spread unnoticed. Authorities are continuously monitoring the area to prevent the fire from reigniting and to avoid further damage.
