Record low water levels on the Danube due to drought
The persistently dry weather of recent weeks and the extreme summer heat are having a serious impact on Hungary's rivers. According to the latest reports, the water level of the Danube has dropped significantly in the northern part of the country, which is causing concern among experts.
Due to the prolonged lack of precipitation, the riverbed has dried up in several places, and the water level is already well below average. This situation not only threatens the natural wildlife but also hinders water transport in the region.
According to shipping experts, due to the shallow water, larger cargo ships can only travel with limited loads, which slows down the transport of goods. Authorities are continuously monitoring changes in the water level and are asking boaters to exercise increased caution on critical sections.
According to meteorological forecasts, no significant amount of rain is expected in the near future, so the Danube's water level is expected to remain low. Experts say that for the situation to improve, sustained and abundant precipitation would be needed in the river's catchment areas.
