Severe damage caused by extreme drought in Hungarian fish farms
Hungarian fish farms have fallen into a serious crisis this year. Due to the extreme dryness and prolonged drought, water levels in the ponds have dropped drastically, which has had fatal consequences for the stock.
According to the latest data, nearly 280 tons of fish have perished so far in various parts of the country. Experts believe that the deterioration of water quality and high temperatures combined to cause the mass die-off, which has made the operation of several farms impossible.
The scale of the economic damage is significant: based on estimates, the revenue loss for fish farmers has already reached 1.3 billion forints. This loss not only affects the businesses but could also influence domestic fish supply and prices in the long term.
Representatives of the fish farms state that the situation is dramatic, and in many places, they have been forced to halt production. Experts are currently investigating potential solutions to determine how to protect against such extreme weather conditions in the future.
