Protests in Budapest over the EU Migration Pact
On Friday, a huge crowd gathered in central Budapest to protest against the government's plans. Demonstrators took to the streets because of the European Union's new migration pact, on which a decision may be reached in the near future. The aim of the protest was to put pressure on political decision-makers.
The atmosphere was tense in the capital during the demonstration. Protesters loudly expressed their disapproval, shouting "treason" among other things near government buildings. Participants fear that the new EU agreement will fundamentally change the country's migration policy to date.
The Fidesz party has officially called on the Tisza government to reject the European Union's proposal. According to the opposition, accepting the pact would be harmful to Hungary and would endanger national sovereignty. They believe that a decision on such an important issue should not be made without consulting the public.
One of the main reasons for the political tension is that Prime Minister Péter Magyar is reportedly set to sign the controversial document soon. This expected move has sparked serious debate and division not only in parliament but also among citizens in recent days.
The situation remains uncertain both in the capital and in political life. In the coming period, further consultations and debates are expected regarding the migration pact, while the public tensely awaits the government's final decision and its consequences.
