Toxic substances found in headphones: what should Hungarian consumers look out for?
A recent study supported by the European Union has reached alarming conclusions. Experts examined various types of headphones in five Central European countries and found toxic chemicals harmful to health in every single product tested.
The investigation revealed that the plastic components and wires of the tested devices contain plasticizers and other chemical substances that can be dangerous to the human body in the long term. Although the research did not name specific brands, experts believe the problem widely affects cheaper electronic goods available on the market.
The presence of toxic substances is particularly concerning because headphones are used directly on our skin and near our ears. In addition to chemicals absorbed through the skin, the heat generated during use can also contribute to these harmful components entering the body more easily.
Consumer protection organizations advise shoppers to be more cautious when selecting electronic devices. It is advisable to buy from reliable sources and well-known manufacturers, and to avoid suspiciously cheap products of unknown origin, which often do not meet strict EU safety standards.
The results of the research highlight that authorities need to monitor products entering the market more strictly. According to experts, more testing and stricter regulations are needed in the future to ensure that Hungarian consumers can also access safe electronic devices.
