Salgótarján bathed in purple light for World Gynecological Oncology Day
The city of Salgótarján drew attention to health preservation in a special way in recent days. The city's central buildings and landmarks were bathed in purple light to join a national initiative linked to World Gynecological Oncology Day.
The goal of the event, called "World Go Day 2026 Hungary," is to reach as many people as possible with the message of the importance of screening tests. The organizers chose the color purple because it symbolizes the fight against gynecological cancers worldwide.
The event in Salgótarján was a great success and drew the attention of the entire country to the Nógrád county seat. Both local residents and visitors were able to admire the illuminated buildings while experts informed those interested about the possibilities of preventing these diseases.
As part of the series of programs, the goal was not only to raise awareness but also to strengthen community solidarity. The initiative pointed out that regular medical check-ups and early detection can be life-saving for all age groups.
The success of the national campaign shows that the Hungarian population is open to health education. The organizers are confident that, inspired by the example of Salgótarján, similar programs will be launched in other cities in the future in the spirit of the fight against cancer.
